Managing Director of IGL accused of misusing CSR Funds to promote interests of wife
IGL denies making any payments for sponsorship of the said event

A whistle-blower, one Mr. Dharamvir Singh has sent a complaint to SEBI making serious allegations against Mr. A.K. Jana, of abusing his position and misappropriation of funds of IGL by sponsoring events unrelated to IGL’s Commercial and CSR objectives only to protect the interests of his wife, Smt. Aradhana Jana.

The letter sent to SEBI Chief further alleges that to promote the sagging career of his wife, Shri A.K. Jana, Managing Director of IGL has abused his powers and has used IGL funds to sponsor – AAYNA, Telangana Bengali FIlm Festival – 2021 (TBFF), where his wife was facilitated by the organizer of the event.

In June 2018, a similar incident of conflict of interest arose at Petronet LNG Limited, when the then PLL Managing Director & CEO Prabhat Singh was faced with ‘conflict of interest’ questions over the award of a film-making contract to a Mumbai-based company which employed his daughters. The then PLL, President (Projects), Rajeev Agrawal, reportedly wrote to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Prabhat Singh of corruption, misconduct and most serious of all, violating the Companies Act, 2013 after Petronet-LNG decided to hire Mumbai-based company Custom Made Films to prepare a $24,000 promotional video showcasing the Dahej LNG terminal.

Earlier in 2008, Former GAIL Director (HR) M.R. Hingnikar and the Acting Chairman & Managing Director of the giant PSU, was demoted to the rank of Executive Director (ED) after the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) had filed a chargesheet against him for financial impropriety to the tune of a mere Rs 20,000.
After much persuations, strangely, the reply to the allegations, instead of being on email, appeared on a Whatsapp message (screenshot saved) from M.D., IGL, A.K. Jana which said “The allegation that Mr A.K. Jana has misused his position as Managing Director of IGL and has misappropriated funds of IGL to favour his wife is completely baseless and unsubstantiated. We would like to clearly put the record straight that during the tenure of Mr Jana at IGL as Managing Director, IGL has not spent anything on sponsoring any such event in which his wife is a beneficiary. In the case of Telangana Bengali Film festival, any brand recognition given to IGL is without any financial obligation on the part of IGL as a sponsor. Though the event took place in November 2021, it is hereby clarified that till date, no amount has been released by IGL to the organisers and no invoice has been raised on IGL by the organisers. As a writer who uses film production as a means to highlight social causes for meaningful impact, Mrs. Aradhana Jana had been invited to be a part of the jury in the above mentioned Film Festival due to her credentials in her personal capacity. We would like to request you to kindly avoid publishing any such biased story based on pure speculations and wild allegations by certain vested interests bent on bringing disrepute to the image of IGL, which has taken years of hard work and commitment. We would again like to thank you for reaching out to us to seek our version on the story”.
If IGL and Mr. Jana are so clean and pious, why are they requesting www.bharatvigilante.com to “avoid publishing” this story?
